ICDO is very proud on eight (8) “Following the Maya Voice” project participants from Universidad Intercultural Maya de Quintana Roo (UIMQROO) in Quintana Roo, Mexico for being selected and received scholarship to attend one term in Lethbridge University in Alberta Canada from January 4th to April 20th, 2022 as part of “Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP)”.

This is a great opportunity for young indigenous Maya students to expand and implement their knowledge, to immerse in new cultures, to grow both profesionaly and personally and most importantly to enrich their families and community with new experiences.

ELAP scholarship will secure their stay and university costs BUT it is available only once the students arrive to the university in Canada.

Unfortunately they do not have financial resources to travel to location nor they have ever travelled outside their community, therefore they contacted us to support them to reach the dream they worked so hard to achieve.

Indigenous Maya communities in Mexico, who live in the most biodiverse regions of the world, are discriminated against, misrepresented and have limited access to education. As a result, their languages and cultural traditions as well as their knowledge on nature preservation are threatened with extinction.

We need to support each student to cover the following expenses:

• Return Airfare (2nd of January to 21st of April 2022) from Cancun, Mexico to Alberta, Canada – EUR 900
• Travel expenses to and from airports – EUR 190
• Study Permit – EUR 100
• Biometrics – EUR 60
